Enzo Potolicchio

Enzo Potolicchio

Enzo Potolicchio is a Venezuelan racing driver and businessman, who competes in the LMGTE-Am division of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with an 8Star Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia GT2.

Potolicchio spent his early career racing Formula Ford, both at home in Venezuela where he was Champion in 2005, and in the American F2000 Championship.

He earned 11 race wins in the 1998 Venezuelan Porsche Supercup and was subsequently presented with the country’s coveted ‘Automobile Driver of the Year’ award that same year.

Potolicchio went on to take away solid top-three results from sporadic outings in the 2009 Ferrari Challenge North America, before achieving back-to-back Ferrari Challenge titles in 2010 and 2011, while dovetailing a Grand-Am campaign.

The Venezuelan emphatically sealed his maiden Grand-Am victory at Mid-Ohio, following that up with a second place in the 2012 24 Hours of Daytona, historic wins in the 6 Hours of Sao Paolo, 12 Hours of Sebring and the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours en-route to the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMP2 Drivers’ Championship.

Potolicchio has since formed 8Star Motorsports, pulling together all-star driver line-ups, expert crew, attracting top partners and running full-time TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, IMSA Prototype Lites and FIA WEC campaigns from the team’s state-of-the-art Pompano Beach, Florida facility – the former home of the Champion Audi squad.

Tom Kimber-Smith

Tom Kimber-Smith

Tom Kimber-Smith is a second generation British racer whose career began in 1990 in Karting.
The Briton, from Ascot, England, was first inspired to pursue a career as a ...

professional racing driver when he witness his father and childhood hero, Geoff Kimber-Smith, piloting a Toyota Corolla GTE in the prestigious British Touring Car Championship (BTCC).He himself graduated from Karts to cars in 1999, initially winning the ‘T-Car’ saloon car championship in 2000.

Kimber-Smith has since accumulated several other high-profile accolades, including the 2003 British Formula Ford Championship, the 2011 Le Mans Series (LMS) LMP2 title and three class wins in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2006 (GT2), 2011 and 2012 (LMP2).

A proud member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), Kimber-Smith was initially recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ in 2002 before becoming a full member of the prominent organisation in 2007.

In 2011 he was nominated as  ‘Driver of the Year’ by the Guild of Motoring Writers, joining an exclusive club of legendary names that includes Juan Manuel Fangio, Sir Stirling Moss, Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Sebastien Loeb, Michael Schumacher and Sir Jackie Stewart.

Sean Rayhall

Sean Rayhall

Sean Rayhall has notched up some impressive statistics during a relatively short career, taking no fewer than 74 race wins, 118 podium finishes, 47 pole positions and 70 fastest laps from 171 races contested before the start of the 2014 season.

The young charger from Atlanta, Georgia started racing Karts at the tender age of seven. He became the youngest driver in North America to win an open-wheeled formula race and has had a great deal of success in stock cars, GTs and prototypes.

Rayhall has 14 championships to his name, winning the coveted Cooper Tires Prototype Lites title in 2013 before impressively racing to second in class on his American Le Mans Series (ALMS) LMPC debut in 8Star Motorsport colours at Petit Le Mans.

He reunited with Enzo Potolicchio’s squad for the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and is focused on bolstering his trophy collection, with the ultimate aim of achieving LMPC title success for himself and the Pompano Beach-based team.

Michael Marsal

Michael Marsal

Michael Marsal is a relative newcomer to motorsport, and can be admired for turning his love of racing from a passion into a profession by taking on the Porsche Club of America competition following his first taste of a formula car at Road America.

Marsal, from New York, immediately began picking up trophies on some of America’s most hallowed asphalt, although his time racing Porsches only served as a precursor to big time appearances in Grand-Am and the Rolex Sports Car Series.

A one-off start on the streets of Trois-Rivieres in 2009 led to a full-time campaign with BMW powerhouse, Turner Motorsport, in 2010, when he impressively jumped to the sharp end of the Grand Sport (GS) class while sharing driving duties with Joey Hand.

The ambitious and enthusiastic gentleman racer continued to develop his racecraft and clocked-up countless laps as part of the Caterham SP/300R development team.

And this experience, coupled with his various GT and LMP successes have served Marsal well in the opening rounds of the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship at Daytona and Sebring as part of 8Star Motorsports’ all-star driver line-up.

Eric Lux

Eric Lux

Eric Lux is regarded as one of the most versatile and skilled young drivers and brings with him a wealth of experience in Karting, stock cars, prototypes and sportscars that belies his age.

The 25-year old joined Tom Kimber-Smith, Michael Marsal and Sean Rayhall in 8Star Motorsports’ LMPC ranks for the 62nd running of the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, having scaled the Sebring winners’ rostrum on two previous occasions.

Lux, from Williamsville, New York, demonstrated his natural aptitude for racing when he achieved two race wins and four podium finishes on his way to the 2011 American Le Mans Series (ALMS) LMPC title and the ‘Rookie of the Year’ crown, before finishing third in the headlining LMP1 category the following year.

For Lux, speed comes naturally, as his mother raced in the Firestone Firehawk sports car series when she was pregnant. He notably became the first 16-year-old to finish the classic Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona and the youngest winner in the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series at the age of 17.

Christian Potolicchio

Christian Potolicchio

Young Venezuelan, Christian Potolicchio, is the son of 8Star Motorsports team owner/driver Enzo. He opened his racing career in the Easykart Venezuela – Light 125cc karting championship in 2009 and moved up to...

car racing in the super-competitive Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship in 2013.Contesting all 14 races of the 2013 season and emphatically breaking 8Star’s podium finishes duck, Potolicchio secured sixth place overall in the standings on his series debut.

The 18-year old returns for a second consecutive season of competition in the IMSA-sanctioned Prototype Lites Championship, with a primary focus on winning the title.

Dalton Sargeant

Dalton Sargeant

Dalton Sargeant, a native of Boca Raton, Florida, has an extensive résumé of open-wheeled racing, having competed in various championships in both the USA and Europe.

Sargeant made his competition debut in the Rotax Max Challenge USA Minimax Grand Nationals in 2008 and finished sixth in the overall standings.

He rapidly climbed the Rotax Max Challenge ranks before travelling across the Atlantic in 2012 to take on the European Karting scene in the WSK Euro Series and CIK-FIA European KF3 Championships.

However, now back on American soil, Sargeant makes his car racing debut in the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship with 8Star Motorsports.

Daniel Conway

Daniel Conway

Daniel Conway began racing Karts at the age of 15 and quickly make an impression before graduating to the Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Challenge Series, where he finishes fifth in the final points standings with no fewer than eight podium finishes to his name.

In 2013, the Fredericksburg, Virginia resident made two Grand-Am outings and entered multiple SCCA races en-route to finishing fifth in that year’s 13 Hours of VIR.

For 2014, Conway joins the 8Star Motorsports fold, on the bottom rung of its ‘stairway of talent’ in the IMSA-sanctioned Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship.

Lamont Harris

Lamont Harris

Lamont Harris is a newcomer to motor racing having only made his competitive debut in the 2012 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship in 2012.

The 49-year old from Palm Beach in the Sunshine State, Florida, is now into his third season of Prototype Lites, has 26 races under his belt and continues to make inroads with expert guidance from 8Star Motorsports’ elite driver line-up.
