Sean Rayhall finishes in sixth position in the Indy Lights Freedom 100

JDC-Indy-2015-1773

Pompano Beach, FL, May 22, 2015 – Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports finished in sixth position in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After an impressive performance at the Indy Lights Indianapolis GP, the expectations coming into the Freedom 100 event were very high even though it was Rayhall’s first oval race with 8Star.

For the first time in the Indy Lights 2015 season, Rayhall and the 8Star team were able to take advantage of the entire event schedule by taking part in the three tests, practice and qualifying. Rayhall, who qualified in third position and had the fastest lap in free practice three, dropped in the field to sixth position and engaged in several battles with Kaiser and championship leader Ed Jones. Sean was able to defend his sixth position before a yellow flag came out with only three laps until the end of the race.

“Really happy with the performance, Sean showed a lot of speed and did an amazing job for his first oval race. We marked the highest speed of the entire weekend and now we get back to working hard to make sure this partnership with Sean is extended for the other events,” said Team Owner Enzo Potolicchio.

“I am really happy with the performance overall this weekend as this was our first experience on ovals in the Dallara IL-15 Indy Lights,” said Sean Rayhall. “I really want to thank the team that worked really hard to have the car ready for this weekend. I also want to thank Bass Egg and everyone who supported my crowdfunding campaign.”

“Considering it is our first experience in the Indy Lights car on ovals and at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I am very happy with the performance overall. Having said that, both Sean (Rayhall) and the team gained valuable experience and next year where I believe we can compete for the win,” said Team Manager Gary Neal.

Overall it was a very good week in Indianapolis for Rayhall and the 8Star team to work together and keep getting acquainted with the Dallara IL-15. The young driver and the 8Star team now have gotten their first oval race out of the way and can get back to working toward the rest of the Indy Lights season.

Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports back in Action for the Indy Lights Indianapolis GP

JGS_4126

Pompano Beach, FL, May 7, 2015 – 8Star Motorsports and promising young driver Sean Rayhall are getting ready to compete in this weekend’s Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Indianapolis Grand Prix. Rayhall and 8Star initiated this Indy Lights partnership at Barber Motorsports Park, where he achieved the fastest lap and track record after only being in the Dallara IL-15 a few times. The expectations for the upcoming races are high, especially now that Rayhall has had more time to get accustomed to the 8Star machine.

Rayhall has competed in Indianapolis before while wearing 8Star orange. Last year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Indianapolis Grand Prix was one to be remembered in many regards. The main takeaway was that Rayhall and 8Star’s pace and strategy were second to none, and the young American tallied a series of fastest laps.

8Star Motorsports Team Manager Gary Neal has stated that “this is a good opportunity for Sean to digest what he learned from the car in Barber, and to further develop his understanding of the Dallara IL-15. Sean has driven the Indy GP circuit with 8Star before so the track is familiar to him. Given the speed we displayed at Barber I am optimistic for good results this weekend.”

The focused American driver was very straight forward when he stated that, “we rolled off with a car that seems better than ever and the main goal is to put out a strong effort this weekend and leave it all on the track. I want to thank Edvisors and Bass Egg as well for keeping this Indy Lights campaign alive, and I hope to make the most of it this weekend.”

Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports will be out on the track for Races 1 & 2 this Friday and Saturday. The Indianapolis Grand Prix promises to be an exciting event and will officially be underway today for both practices. Qualifying will begin tomorrow at 12:00pm and race 1 will come around at 4:30pm. The weekend will be capped off on Saturday with Race 2 set to begin at 1:25pm.

I am beyond grateful for their efforts! ,” said Sean Rayhall. “I am really looking forward to get back on track at Barber where I have had experience before and get my first laps in the Dallara IL-15!”

“After a succesfull 2014 season with Sean, it is good to have him back, this time in the 8Star Motorsports Indy Lights. Impressive debut for Scott Hargrove and 8Star Motorsports in the Indy Lights rounds at St. Petersburg

scott_H03After qualifying with a time of 1m05.922s, Hargrove started race one in fourth position only six tenths away from pole. Immediately in turn one the young Canadian driver lost some ground dropping to sixth but promptly gained back fourth position in turn two. For the remainder of the race he kept his position and exposed his toughness by fending off fellow Pro Mazda graduate Kyle Kaiser.

Race two was also a test of Hargrove’s fortitude behind the wheel. Driving the brand-new Dallara IL-15 chassis and 2.0-liter turbocharged Mazda MZR-R engine, Hargrove was the protagonist of another intense duel. Throughout the 45-lap race, the young Canadian’s potential was on full display and in a close battle for sixth position, he emerged as the winner against Matthew Brabham.

It was a pleasing experience all weekend for Hargrove as he stated, “Hats off to everyone at 8Star Motorsports, we put a deal together for St. Petersburg less than two weeks ago and straight out of the trailer we were quick. The BC Pit Crew car looked the part and I’m thrilled to have battled at the front, coming away from my first Indy Lights weekend with a 4th place finish. I’m hopeful we will be able to find more partners to join our team, allowing us to race in the historic streets of Long Beach.”

Overall it was a great start for Hargrove and 8Star Motorsports, Team Manager Gary Neal said “The level of performance was very tight which doesn’t leave much room for astounding moves unless there was an accident or mistakes. Weather was nice,a good race, but we’re still learning the car and missed a couple of tests so we’re playing catch-up a little bit. Its all very close so we’re optimistic for the future, especially if we can have Scott with us as well.” The optimism was also shared by team owner Enzo Potolicchio who stated that “It was a good start for us and Scott, we hope that we will be able to extend this partnership and make it a durable and prolific one.”

The partnership between 8Star Motorsports and Scott Hargrove ended after these first two rounds of the championship in St. Petersburg, but all efforts are being made to extend it for as long as possible throughout the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season. The main goal right now is to fill the seats for the third round of the Indy Lights championship in the Streets of Long Beach.

Scott Hargrove tops the charts in official Indy Lights Practices at PBIR

Pompano Beach, Fla. (January 14, 2015) – Scott Hargrove and 8Star Motorsports among the fastest throughout the two official Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Practice days at Palm Beach International Raceway. (January 13-14).

Young driver Scott Hargrove was at the top of the charts throughout the two official Indy Lights test days on-board of the #8 8Star Motorsports debuting Indy Lights. Canadian-born Hargrove dominated most of the sessions, improving each and every session and finishing on top on two of the three free practices.

Hargrove posted a time of 1m06.860s which put him in first in practice day one’s session two, improving from a 1m09.253s which he posted in session one. Practice day two came which much improvement for the Canadian driver, as he lead the way with a 1m05.504s best time only topped by Kyle Kaiser in the No. 18 Indy Lights.

“I feel right at home within the team and it showed on the track today. Every change we’ve made is in the right direction, improving the car alongside our engineer. Topping the timing sheets is a nice bonus and I’m very confident we can continue the trend as we continue to work on this new Indy Lights car,” said Hargrove after topping the charts at PBIR.

“This was our second test working with the 2014 Pro Mazda Championship runner-up Scott Hargrove, and he continues to impress with his very quality feedback on the car and the Cooper Tires,” said team Manager Gary Neal. “Overall we are very impressed with the new Dallara IL-15 as it is a very well designed car with many options for the driver and the engineer to manipulate and optimise performance. We are confident that we can be a title contender, however the competition is tight and it will only get more intense as the season starts.”

“We are incredibily satisfied with the two days of practice, as our engineer was able to accomplish his test plan and we were able to collect the data necessary to continue to develop our Dallara IL-15 Indy Lights. Scott (Hargrove) adapted really well to the car and was able to work closely with the team, we are really impressed with his performance,” said team owner Enzo Potolicchio. “8Star is a recognized team in the world of Endurance racing that has many years of Indy Car and Formula 1 experience, and our expectation is to accomplish great results in our first Indy Lights season.”

Canada’s Scott Hargrove first to test 8Star Motorsports Indy Lights racer

Scott_HargroveScott Hargrove will be one of the first to be assessed for a drive with 8Star Motorsports in the 2015 Indy Lights Series Presented by Cooper Tires in an official test at Palm Beach International Raceway, Florida on Wednesday (17 December).

Canada’s Hargrove drove a Kart for the first time when he was 13 years old, planting the seed that would lead him to high profile successes in the US and overseas.

As a recipient of the 2013 Team Canada Scholarship, the young charger proudly represented his home nation in the prestigious Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch in the United Kingdom and acquitted himself well by finishing fourth in a super-competitive field consisting of 57 of the world’s brightest young racers.

The Canadian followed his 2013 Cooper Tires USF2000 Series championship success – he maintained his points lead for the entirety of the 14-race season by capturing four wins, nine podiums, five fastest race laps and six pole positions – by winning the Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada (Platinum Cup) and finishing second in the 2014 Pro Mazda Championship.

Wanting to become British Columbia’s next IZOD IndyCar driver, Hargrove will be one of the first candidates to be assessed for one of 8Star Motorsports’ Indy Lights seats during an official test at Palm Beach International Raceway in Jupiter, Florida on Wednesday (17 December).

An ever-strengthening 2015 Indy Lights field is forming, as several teams and drivers have already announced their intention to enter the revamped single-seater series in the New Year.

In an expansion of its newly-established young driver Academy, 8Star Motorsports has committed to a two-car attack on the modernized, fresh-faced Indy Lights Series and is open to testing other prospective IndyCar drivers.

The third and final step on the Mazda Road to Indy, the highly acclaimed championship has a rich history as a development platform for many of today’s top drivers, particularly as the series Champion is awarded a three-race scholarship in the Verizon IndyCar Series, including the headlining Indianapolis 500.

The INDYCAR-sanctioned championship therefore ties in with 8Star Motorsports’ ongoing commitment to nurturing young talent through its flourishing ‘8Star Academy’ program.

While Brazilian Ozz Negri will be 8Star’s official Indy Lights development driver, Hargrove will be the first to have his mettle tested, with the view of potentially filling one of the Florida-based team’s two race seats in 2015.

“To be one of the first drivers to test the new Indy Lights car is exciting and doing it with 8Star Motorsports is going to be a lot of fun,” said Hargrove. “The team has its roots in sportscar racing but a lot of its personnel are very experienced with open-wheelers, so it’s going to be fun to branch out and see what the team can do with the new Dallara IL-15. I’m really looking forward to 2015 and we’ll see where the test takes us.”
