Pompano Beach, FL, August 3, 2015- Sean Rayhall and 8star Motorsports win race two at the Cooper Tires Grand Prix of Mid-Ohio Powered by Mazda to complete a successful return to the Indy Lights Championship presented by Cooper Tires. After a great victory in the Indianapolis GP earlier in the year, Rayhall was able to repeat this feat at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
This win caps off an excellent weekend for 8Star Motorsports and Rayhall. Rayhall, who had some trouble during qualifying, qualified 12th. During race one, Sean (Rayhall) was able to bounce back and recover from starting in 12th place to finish in 5th position. This amazing performance in race one gave Sean the opportunity to start in 4th position for race two.
Race two was an emotional rollercoaster for Rayhall and the 8Star Motorsports team. The race started with Sean keeping his 4th place position and taking 3rd place a couple laps into the race after Serralles got off the track. Sean continued putting in great laps, trailing leaders Ed Jones and Jack Harvey, but halfway into the race a contact between Harvey and Jones led to Rayhall taking the lead. Rayhall was able to keep this lead until the end of the race and was able to accomplish his second victory of the year in the Indy Lights championship and Mazda Road to Indy.
“Extremely proud of this Bass Egg 8Star Motorsports crew for working so hard after my mistake in qualifying. They are the best. So grateful to be back on the top step of the Mazda Road To Indy Cooper Tire Indy lights series,” an ecstatic Sean Rayhall said after his victory.
“Once again Sean performed perfectly in the Bass Egg, 8Star Motorsports IL15. Due to technical issues we missed half of P2 and in Qualifying Sean made an uncommon mistake and was unable to run the last few minutes which saw us starting at the back of the field for race one. Sean made some great passes in race one moving up to P5 at the checker and on the way bettered his starting position for race two,” said Team Manager Gary Neal. “In race two we started from fourth place and Sean was pacing himself to attack at the end of the race. The leaders were fighting hard and during their battle, Sean was able to pass them for the victory.”
“Really happy for the performance of the team all weekend. As always, Sean (Rayhall) made a great, smart race and gave us our second win of the season,” team owner Enzo Potolicchio said. “Interest in our team has continued to grow and we will run test days at local tracks (Florida) before and after Laguna Seca to choose our drivers.”
The race will air on NBCSN at 1:00 AM EDT on Thursday, August 6.
