Sean Rayhall finishes in sixth position in the Indy Lights Freedom 100

JDC-Indy-2015-1773

Pompano Beach, FL, May 22, 2015 – Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports finished in sixth position in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Freedom 100 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. After an impressive performance at the Indy Lights Indianapolis GP, the expectations coming into the Freedom 100 event were very high even though it was Rayhall’s first oval race with 8Star.

For the first time in the Indy Lights 2015 season, Rayhall and the 8Star team were able to take advantage of the entire event schedule by taking part in the three tests, practice and qualifying. Rayhall, who qualified in third position and had the fastest lap in free practice three, dropped in the field to sixth position and engaged in several battles with Kaiser and championship leader Ed Jones. Sean was able to defend his sixth position before a yellow flag came out with only three laps until the end of the race.

“Really happy with the performance, Sean showed a lot of speed and did an amazing job for his first oval race. We marked the highest speed of the entire weekend and now we get back to working hard to make sure this partnership with Sean is extended for the other events,” said Team Owner Enzo Potolicchio.

“I am really happy with the performance overall this weekend as this was our first experience on ovals in the Dallara IL-15 Indy Lights,” said Sean Rayhall. “I really want to thank the team that worked really hard to have the car ready for this weekend. I also want to thank Bass Egg and everyone who supported my crowdfunding campaign.”

“Considering it is our first experience in the Indy Lights car on ovals and at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, I am very happy with the performance overall. Having said that, both Sean (Rayhall) and the team gained valuable experience and next year where I believe we can compete for the win,” said Team Manager Gary Neal.

Overall it was a very good week in Indianapolis for Rayhall and the 8Star team to work together and keep getting acquainted with the Dallara IL-15. The young driver and the 8Star team now have gotten their first oval race out of the way and can get back to working toward the rest of the Indy Lights season.

Pompano Beach, FL, May 19, 2015 – Coming off a victory in race two of the Indy Lights presented by Cooper Tires Indianapolis GP, Sean Rayhall returns to Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy Lights Freedom 100. After a prolific first weekend in Indianapolis with two podium finishes, Rayhall will participate in his first oval race in the Dallara IL-15.

The inclusion of the young American driver in the upcoming event at the legendary Indy track was made possible through the support of several sponsors as well as a Crowdfunding campaign that proved to be a success. Sean Rayhall and the 8Star Motorsports team are hard at work preparing for the event coming up this weekend.

After the Monday morning tests, Team Owner Enzo Potolicchio said “We are happy to have Sean in the car for the Freedom 100 and trust that we have the experience necessary to make it a memorable event. Our partnership with Sean has been incredible and I’m glad we have been able to extend it for this legendary challenge. The GoFundMe campaign was a success, and I want to thank everyone who supported Sean for this event.”

Incredible Weekend Capped off with a Win for Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports

16C_6840Pompano Beach, FL, May 9, 2015 – The Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires weekend in Indianapolis proved to be a memorable one for Sean Rayhall and the 8Star Motorsports team. The 20-year old showed everyone what the definition of taking advantage of an opportunity is. In race one at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Rayhall, who qualified in third place with a time of 1m15.318s, quickly jumped into 2nd place and came close to completing the pass for first place in turn one. Using his previous experience at the Speedway Rayhall maintained the 2nd position over both Carlin cars until the end of the race.

In race 2 Rayhall lived up and exceeded the hype surrounding his successful campaign the previous day. Starting the contest in p2, the American immediately took the first position with an aggressive move in turn one and showed his grit early on while having to defend a push from other drivers after a yellow flag halted the contest. As the contest went on, Rayhall looked poised and worked on increasing his lead against his strong competitors.

During the race, an enthusiastic Team Owner Enzo Potolicchio stated “We knew Sean had great talent, now he found a sponsor and he is dominating. He is part of the family, we want him here, he is one of the best American drivers for the future. This guy never sleeps, we are a little behind because we missed some races, but he just keeps working hard.”

A testament to that came as the race went on, and even though Rayhall kept his lead intact, as soon as Jack Harvey began to pick up speed and get closer, he responded with his fastest lap of the race on Lap 23. With a lot of action taking place behind Rayhall, he kept his head down and stayed on track in order to achieve his first win. With 5 laps to go Rayhall boasted his fastest lap, 1m16.839s, to consolidate his fantastic performance at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

After the victory an emotional Rayhall spoke about his first Indy Lights win, “Words can’t describe this day man, so fortunate for Bassegg, Edvisors, and 8Star Motorsports bringing me here. I wish my parents could’ve been here, but I’m sure they were watching from home, Thanks dad!”

A satisfied Team Manager Gary Neal said post-race that “this was a fantastic competitive weekend for Sean and 8Star, from practice one we made massive gains on the track time and we kept working hard to keep improving. I’m glad it all worked out great at the end and now we get home, get back to work and make sure we have Sean in orange for the rest of the season.”

After a strong performance in Indianapolis this weekend the 8Star Motorsports team is headed back home to Florida so they can get back to work and also try to secure this successful partnership for the long haul.

Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports back in Action for the Indy Lights Indianapolis GP

JGS_4126

Pompano Beach, FL, May 7, 2015 – 8Star Motorsports and promising young driver Sean Rayhall are getting ready to compete in this weekend’s Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires Indianapolis Grand Prix. Rayhall and 8Star initiated this Indy Lights partnership at Barber Motorsports Park, where he achieved the fastest lap and track record after only being in the Dallara IL-15 a few times. The expectations for the upcoming races are high, especially now that Rayhall has had more time to get accustomed to the 8Star machine.

Rayhall has competed in Indianapolis before while wearing 8Star orange. Last year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Indianapolis Grand Prix was one to be remembered in many regards. The main takeaway was that Rayhall and 8Star’s pace and strategy were second to none, and the young American tallied a series of fastest laps.

8Star Motorsports Team Manager Gary Neal has stated that “this is a good opportunity for Sean to digest what he learned from the car in Barber, and to further develop his understanding of the Dallara IL-15. Sean has driven the Indy GP circuit with 8Star before so the track is familiar to him. Given the speed we displayed at Barber I am optimistic for good results this weekend.”

The focused American driver was very straight forward when he stated that, “we rolled off with a car that seems better than ever and the main goal is to put out a strong effort this weekend and leave it all on the track. I want to thank Edvisors and Bass Egg as well for keeping this Indy Lights campaign alive, and I hope to make the most of it this weekend.”

Sean Rayhall and 8Star Motorsports will be out on the track for Races 1 & 2 this Friday and Saturday. The Indianapolis Grand Prix promises to be an exciting event and will officially be underway today for both practices. Qualifying will begin tomorrow at 12:00pm and race 1 will come around at 4:30pm. The weekend will be capped off on Saturday with Race 2 set to begin at 1:25pm.

Great debut weekend for Sean Rayhall in the Indy Lights rounds at Barber Motorsports Park

Dagys_ 2014_278569

Pompano Beach, FL, April 27, 2015 – Sean Rayhall has achieved prominent success throughout his young racing career. The 20 year-old became the youngest driver in North America to win an open-wheeled formula race. In his debut weekend in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires at Barber Motorsports Park his results were nothing short of great while driving the 8Star Motorsports #8 machine.

Sean was effectively in the Indy Lights Dallara IL-15 in practice one for the first time, and was able to pull out a fifth position with a 1m13.799s time. Coming into practice two the expectations were a little higher but Sean encountered some difficulties with his pace and finished with the 8th position and a time of 1m14.410s. Qualifying proved to be another challenge for Sean where he had to overcome sensor failure issues with the car, and even though he may not have been in it for more than two practices, he was able to qualify in ninth place.

Sean’s first race ever in the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires series was an eventful one. He was involved in a skirmish at the first turn and had to come in for a quick nose change. He was still able to overcome yet another setback and finish with the fastest lap and track record at Barber Motorsports Park with a 1m13.831s time.

In race two he started in the 8th position and went on to 7th place after Ed Jones dropped from 2nd. Perhaps one of the most exciting moments of the second race was when Sean and RC Enerson battled for the sixth spot, which the 8Star driver came out on top.

8Star Motorsports Team Owner Enzo Potolicchio said, “We are very happy with the partnership with (Sean) Rayhall and are extremely proud with his lap record accomplishment. Sean proved once again that he is second to no one in tenacity and overcame a few difficulties to make this a fantastic Indy lights debut.”

Adding on to the positive tone was Team Manager Gary Neal who stated, “It was great to see Sean’s potential on display today at this beautiful facility, even though we had some setbacks in qualifying it was an overall great experience. Now we get back to working hard in order to find ways of putting our young and promising drivers in a car for the rest of the season, we are optimistic that it will work out.”

“Really happy about this debut weekend in the 8Star Motorsports Indy Lights. The team did a great job having the car ready after having sensor failure issues during qualifying, unfortunately those issues came back during race two,” said an ecstatic Sean Rayhall. “I really enjoyed being in the Dallara IL-15 and having the track record during race one. I really want to thank Edvisors, Bass Egg and everyone that made it possible for me to have this debut in the Indy Lights championship.”

Potolicchio, who joined Perrazzini and Cioci for the 12 Hours of Sebring in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, made his return to the European tracks and did so in great fashion. Potolicchio posted the fastest lap in the #53 Ferrari with a time of 1m50.122s around the 3.6 mile Monza track.

“I am really happy with our race in Monza, as it was my first time here and I adapted really quick to the Ferrari GT3 car and the track. Scott_Hargrove

Impressive debut for Scott Hargrove and 8Star Motorsports in the Indy Lights rounds at St. Petersburg

scott_H03After qualifying with a time of 1m05.922s, Hargrove started race one in fourth position only six tenths away from pole. Immediately in turn one the young Canadian driver lost some ground dropping to sixth but promptly gained back fourth position in turn two. For the remainder of the race he kept his position and exposed his toughness by fending off fellow Pro Mazda graduate Kyle Kaiser.

Race two was also a test of Hargrove’s fortitude behind the wheel. Driving the brand-new Dallara IL-15 chassis and 2.0-liter turbocharged Mazda MZR-R engine, Hargrove was the protagonist of another intense duel. Throughout the 45-lap race, the young Canadian’s potential was on full display and in a close battle for sixth position, he emerged as the winner against Matthew Brabham.

It was a pleasing experience all weekend for Hargrove as he stated, “Hats off to everyone at 8Star Motorsports, we put a deal together for St. Petersburg less than two weeks ago and straight out of the trailer we were quick. The BC Pit Crew car looked the part and I’m thrilled to have battled at the front, coming away from my first Indy Lights weekend with a 4th place finish. I’m hopeful we will be able to find more partners to join our team, allowing us to race in the historic streets of Long Beach.”

Overall it was a great start for Hargrove and 8Star Motorsports, Team Manager Gary Neal said “The level of performance was very tight which doesn’t leave much room for astounding moves unless there was an accident or mistakes. Weather was nice,a good race, but we’re still learning the car and missed a couple of tests so we’re playing catch-up a little bit. Its all very close so we’re optimistic for the future, especially if we can have Scott with us as well.” The optimism was also shared by team owner Enzo Potolicchio who stated that “It was a good start for us and Scott, we hope that we will be able to extend this partnership and make it a durable and prolific one.”

The partnership between 8Star Motorsports and Scott Hargrove ended after these first two rounds of the championship in St. Petersburg, but all efforts are being made to extend it for as long as possible throughout the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires season. The main goal right now is to fill the seats for the third round of the Indy Lights championship in the Streets of Long Beach.
